Studying the nature of democracy might shed light on a country’s attitude towards judicial review, said Marlene Wind, professor of political science at the University of Copenhagen, at her lecture “Why Majoritarian Democracies Are More Anti-European” Feb. 19. The event was organized by CEU’s Center for European Union Research as part of the Frontiers of Democracy series.

Slovakia, a member of the Eurozone for a mere year at the time, said “no” to the bailout for Greece in 2010. A year later, the decision to back the loan led to the collapse of the coalition government under Prime Minister Iveta Radicova. Ivan Miklos, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in Slovakia, gave an overview of the political and economic thinking of the past ten years in Slovakia in his lecture “Managing Euro Crisis Decision-making in Slovakia” on January 29. The event was organized by CEU’s Center for European Union Research.
