Különleges matematikai modellt dolgozott ki a Közép-európai Egyetem (CEU) hálózattudományi professzoraként dolgozó Kertész János és kutatócsapata: a modell segítségével előre - akár egy hónappal a megjelenés előtt - megjósolható, hogy egy mozifilm kasszasiker lesz-e, vagy sem. (2013.08.22.)

London, 2013. július 18., csütörtök (MTI) - Izrael, Adolf Hitler, a holokauszt, Isten, Jézus és Mohamed a legvérmesebb vitákat kiváltó témák a Wikipédia oldalain - mutatta ki egy nemzetközi kutatócsoport tíz nyelven írt cikkek elemzésének eredményeként. A magyar nyelvű anyagot is vizsgálták: abban a roma bűnözés, az ateizmus és a magyar radikális jobboldal áll az első három helyen.

Researchers Predict Which Movies Will Be Box Office Hits

CEU Professor of Network Science Janos Kertesz and his fellow researchers have devised a mathematical model which can be used to predict films that become blockbusters or flops at the box office, up to a month before the movie is released. Their model is based on an analysis of the activity on Wikipedia pages about American films released in 2009 and 2010. They examined 312 movies, taking into account the number of page views for the movie’s article, the number of human editors contributing to the article, the number of edits made, and the diversity of online users.

A team led by Janos Kertesz of CEU's Center for Network Science has extensively studied “edit wars” on Wikipedia. They analyzed which topics are keeping Wikipedia editors' keyboards busiest in 10 different languages and the evolution patterns of escalation and resolution of controversies.
