Vera Messing and Zsuzsanna Arendas, research fellows at the Center for Policy Studies, participate in a research project titled “Bridging Young Roma and Business: Intervention for inclusion of Roma youth through employment in the private sector in Bulgaria and Hungary”. The project includes 3 organizations and received a total of EUR1,046,102.62 funding from European Commission’s DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Program, and will run for 36 months.

At the event CPS Research affiliate Vera Messing highlighted that according to their finding, Austrian media emphasized the humanitarian, while Hungarian media the security issues of the refugee crisis.

Andrew Cartwright, co-director and research fellow at CEU’s Center for Policy Studies and Agnes Batory, research fellow at the Center for Policy Studies and professor at CEU’s School of Public Policy participate in a research project focusing on “The Impact of Cohesion Policy on EU Identification”. The project received € 2.4 million funding from European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program, and will run for 27 months.

Joanna Kostka, alumna of CEU's Department of Public Policy and currently Visiting Researcher at the Center for Policy Studies, has recently been selected for a lecturer position in Social Work at Lancaster University's Sociology Department in the United Kingdom. Kostka received her PhD (summa cum laude) from CEU in 2015, defending a thesis on 'Going beyond Political Commitments: Explaining Diverging Outputs in the Use of European Structural Funds for Roma Inclusion Strategies in Spain and Slovakia'.

Julia Szalai, senior research fellow at CEU's Center for Policy Studies and visiting professor in the Department of Political Science and National Studies Program, has been awarded a research fellowship at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York for academic year 2016-17. Szalai will conduct research in the Advanced Research Collaborative (ARC) of the Graduate Center's 'Inequalities' research priority.

Despite much talk about the need for the international community to do more to include local actors in disaster management, not much has changed, speakers said at a Feb. 11 roundtable on the “World Disasters Report 2015,” an annual independent publication commissioned by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. CEU's Center for Policy Studies contributed to the report.
