Andrew Cartwright, co-director of CEU’s Center for Policy Studies, Sara Svensson, visiting professor in the School of Public Policy at CEU, and Julia Szalai, visiting professor in the Department of Political Science and Nationalism Studies Program and senior research fellow at CPS, participate in the SOLIDUS Research Project (Solidarity in European Societies: Empowerment, Social Justice and Citizenship) with 13 other partner institutions from Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Julia Szalai, visiting professor in the Department of Political Science and Nationalism Studies Program and senior research fellow at CEU’s Center for Policy Studies, has been awarded the 2015 Karl Polanyi Prize by the Hungarian Sociological Association. The award is given every year as recognition for the best book or article published in the field of sociology.

Co-directors of CEU’s Center for Policy Studies Viola Zentai and Andrew Cartwright have joined the international research network Overcoming Inequalities in Schools and Learning Communities: Innovative Education for a New Century (SALEACOM). SALECOM aims to address educational and social exclusion in schools and learning communities through a number of academic exchanges. The project activities will be implemented in 36 months with a total € 391,500 funding from the European Commission's H2020 Programme.

The latest publication of the Center for Policy Studies (CPS) at CEU explores the mechanisms of three forms of child trafficking in Hungary - begging, pickpocketing and sexual exploitation of children - by focusing of Roma victims. The study, spearheaded by CPS research fellow Zsuzsanna Vidra, gives an overview of the anti-human trafficking and anti-child trafficking policy frameworks, and tries to reveal what factors lead to victimization, and how recruitment and exploitation of children actually take place.

The Center for Policy Studies (CPS) at CEU has joined the project entitled “Enhancing the EU's Transboundary Crisis Management Capacities: Strategies for Multi-Level Leadership (TransCrisis).” The project, led by the London School of Economics, runs between 2015-2017 with a total €2,28 million funding from the European Commission's H2020 Programme.

Stopping rape: Towards a comprehensive policy has been hailed as “an exceptional analysis of the research and policies of rape prevention in an international context.” The book, which was published by Policy Press in July 2015, is a revised version of a 2013 study that was commissioned by the European Parliament's Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.

Edited by Andrea Krizsan, research fellow at CEU’s Center for Policy Studies, the aim of this volume is to explore and understand the influence of women's movement mobilization on domestic violence policy change in Central and Eastern Europe. This volume addresses a series of questions, such as what are the dynamics that led to movement successes in the region? Which movements and the strategies they adopt are successful in promoting progressive policy change?

Hungarian weekly HVG interviewed LGBT human rights activist Tamas Dombos (SOCL '04) about the challenges LGBT people currently face in Hungary. Dombos, a junior researcher at CEU’s Center for Policy Studies (CPS), has been working at Hatter Society since 2007, one of the largest and most active LGBTQI NGOs in Hungary.
