Students and faculty involved in two Policy Labs will present their research at the European Regional Conference of the International Federation of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Florence from June 3- 6, 2014. Policy Labs are a part of the compulsory practice requirement in the MA program in Public Policy. Supported by a mentor, students work in small teams of three or four to produce and present a piece of original research for an external client engaged in public policy advocacy, implementation and development.

Researchers in CEU's Center for Policy Studies (CPS) are participating in a large-scale project that aims to strengthen counter-trafficking efforts in Europe by addressing two deficiencies in current discourse: lack of in-depth knowledge of new forms of child-trafficking and lack of involvement of the Roma community (a group at high risk of child trafficking). The project, funded by the EU Commission, will focus on three new forms of trafficking: child begging, labor exploitation for pick-pocketing, and sexual exploitation of boys.

A Közép-európai Egyetem egy kutatás kapcsán hozta létre a civil térképet, amelyet aztán további frissítésre átadott a HAND Szövetségnek. Ennek segítségével folyamatosan áttekinthető, hogy a magyar civil szervezetek milyen fejlesztéseket hajtanak végre a világban. A mostani térkép a magyar civilek elmúlt ötéves munkáját mutatja. Hasonlóan ehhez, már a világ több országában nyomon követhetők a nonprofit szervezetek külföldi fejlesztései.

Angela Kocze, a researcher with CEU's Center for Policy Studies and an alumna of CEU, has been chosen to receive the Ion Ratiu Democracy Award, given by the Woodrow Wilson Center honoring democracy advocates. Kocze is a leading Hungarian Roma rights activist and scholar.
