Nadia Al-Bagdadi, professor in the Department of History, has been appointed director of the CEU Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS), effective August 1, 2015. With this appointment, Al-Bagdadi will take the helm of a very important academic initiative at CEU, bringing her vast academic and leadership experience to this role.

Hungarian weekly Magyar Narancs published an article about the history, importance, and financial background of the Collegium Budapest Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) that operated between 1992 and 2011 in the Buda Castle. The publication highlights its impact, especially in comparison to the recent institutions established by the Hungarian Government, such as the Pallas Athene Domus Animae Foundation.

Best-selling author Kati Marton unravels this perplexing story in her forthcoming book, which carries the working title, “The Believer: Stalin’s Last American.” Marton, a fellow at CEU’s Institute for Advanced Study, read from her first draft and described her inspiration in a talk at CEU April 1.
“It’s the story of the power of an idea,” Marton said. “About fanaticism and faith. Field was unique – he was a believer to his last breath.”

The School of Public Policy at Central European University (SPP) in partnership with the Central European University Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS) in Budapest, and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin are launching a fellowship program for researchers and public policy practitioners from nine countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, and Turkey).

The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) invites applications for a new artist-in-residence program for academic year 2015-16.. Two residential fellowships are offered on a competitive basis to senior (up to three months) and junior artists (up to six months), who work innovatively in various visual media, including film and digital applications. The purpose of this program is to promote socially relevant artistic projects that would encourage the development of Visual Studies at CEU.
