Budapest, April 6, 2017 – Central European University (CEU) President and Rector Michael Ignatieff met with the following U.S. officials and members of Congress as well as journalists in the past four days to garner support for CEU’s case.

Budapest, April 5, 2017 – The Ministry of Human Capacities statement of April 4 concerning Central European University (CEU) and Közép-európai Egyetem contains a number of inaccuracies and errors. The fact that our university is not referred to by its official name but, alluding to the founder, is referred to as “Soros University,” shows the statement is a piece of political propaganda.

Budapest, April 4, 2017 – Central European University (CEU) condemns the Hungarian Parliament’s passage of amendments to the Hungarian national law on higher education today. The new law puts at risk the academic freedom not only of CEU but of other Hungarian research and academic institutions.

PRESS RELEASE UPDATE: Budapest, April 3 -- Now over 500 prominent U.S. and European academics, including 20 Nobel Laureates have signed an open letter in support of Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Budapest, March 30, 2017 – Following a meeting with Hungarian government officials yesterday, Central European University (CEU) remains concerned the government does not yet fully realize the implications of the proposed legislation. It remains unclear to CEU why the legislation is necessary, given CEU's full compliance with Hungarian law, and widespread acknowledgement of CEU’s contributions to Hungarian academic life.
