CEU formally received the Circle of Excellence Award in crisis communications from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) August 30 in Edinburgh. CEU Media Relations Manager Ildiko Rull spoke about CEU’s fight for academic freedom in front of an audience of nearly 1,000 at the awards ceremony, part of the CASE Europe Annual Conference - Europe's largest multidisciplinary gathering for education advancement professionals.

In recognition of the University's communications campaigns in response to the attack on its academic freedom, CEU has been awarded the Council of Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Gold Award in the Crisis Communications category. CASE, founded in 1974, is a membership association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.

The CEU Communications Office and Web Team rolled out an updated website theme to the University's main domain (www.ceu.edu) as well as the people, course, and document hubs at the end of April. The new theme represents a fresh interpretation of CEU's existing visual identity and adopts several design approaches now common among university websites.

Az elmúlt hónapok folyamán tárgyalások folytak New York állam és Magyarország kormánya között a CEU budapesti jövőjéről. A CEU szándékosan tartózkodott a nyilatkozatoktól, hogy elősegítse a tárgyalások sikerét. A CEU nem vesz részt a tárgyalásokon, arról értesült azonban, hogy azok megteremtették a megegyezés alapját. Az eredmények fényében a CEU úgy ítélte meg, hogy egyetértési megállapodást írhat alá az intézménnyel több évtizede szoros partneri kapcsolatot ápoló Bard College-dzsal, annak érdekében, hogy az Egyetem oktatási tevékenységet folytathasson New York államban.

For the last several months, negotiations have continued between New York State and the Government of Hungary regarding CEU’s future in Budapest. CEU has deliberately abstained from comment in order to facilitate successful negotiations. As you know, CEU is not at the negotiating table. However, we have been informed that negotiations have created the basis for an agreement.

CEU formally began its new Academic Year today, welcoming students, faculty, staff and distinguished guests with an Opening Ceremony held in the spirit of free inquiry, diversity, and open society that are the hallmarks of CEU. President and Rector Michael Ignatieff welcomed more than 700 new students from more than 90 countries to the CEU community, which now includes 1,500 students and hundreds of staff and faculty, as well as 14,000 alumni worldwide.
